David Comparetto M.A, LMFT , is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in Minnesota and Wisconsin, his office is located in Woodbury Minnesota. David is the owner of The Power of Change David Comparetto LLC. He works with adults and children, ages 10 and up, as well as with couples. David works collaboratively with clients to identify and enhance their strengths while reducing the negative self-talk that is associated with depression and anxiety. He teaches clients to understand how their thoughts impact feelings and behaviors. Dave uses humor, empathy, and compassion in his person-centered, cognitive-behavioral approach while helping people explore short and long-term goals for themselves in their lives.

In his work with couples, Dave enjoys helping people learn communication skills so that they reach a resolution in conflicts, and helps couples rediscover their passion for one another. He specializes in working with couples through affairs. Dave is certified in Prepare-Enrich, helping couples who are getting married to communicate their values and beliefs with one another.

Dave earned his Master’s degree from the University of the Rockies In Denver Colorado, and his Post Master’s Certificate in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of St. Thomas. He worked as a therapist in the St. Paul school district for several years. Dave uses cognitive behavioral therapy to assist clients identify how their thoughts impact their feelings and behaviors, and helps clients develop useful strategies to reduce mental health symptoms.  When working with couples, Dave uses many Gottman methods to assist couples improve communication, increase their connection with one another.

In addition to therapy, Dave Provides custody evaluations for families going through the divorce process in the Twin Cities area. Dave works with families to find solutions to parenting time and custody, and to advocate for the wellbeing of the children involved.

In his spare time, Dave enjoys spending time with his wife and two kids, he enjoys following the local sports teams and he is a Minnesota Vikings fan. Dave likes making people around him laugh and have a good time with his sarcastic sense of humor.

Custody evaluations

The purpose of a custody evaluation is to have a third; neutral party, evaluate what is best for the children when parents are not able to agree on custody.

The evaluator will provide recommendations after conducting a thorough investigation of the situation, to help parents settle the custody arrangement outside of court. When parents are unable to resolve custody concerns outside of court, your custody evaluator can draft a report to submit to the court.

Procedures
Meet with the attorneys of both parents.
Meet with both parents together.
Interview each parent alone 3 times per parent.
Have a 3rd party conduct a psychological evaluation with each parent
Interview all of the children involved.
Interview children independently in some cases.
Observe each parent in their home with the children.
Interview Collateral sources provided by each parent.
Meet with the attorneys of each parent to provide recommendations.
Draft a report for the court (if requested).
Testify in court (if required)
Format
Custody evaluations will take place in a variety of locations including in the office, at each parent’s home, and over zoom.
